crochet blanket: one week in

crochet blanket crochet blanket: one week in

Week one update on my crochet blanket!! What do you think? Isn’t it amazing? Apart from the loose ends of thread that I haven’t tidied up yet (I’ll get to them when I start putting the squares together) I am in LOVE with this.

In all fairness, this has taken a lot longer than I thought it would…. but after working on this every night for a week while watching the telly, I’m so proud of how many squares I have managed to crochet. 48 squares!!

It is a fun project and if you are like me and you can’t sit still, this is the perfect side project to pick up for those days or evenings where you are feeling lazy and you just want to lounge. At least now, I am ‘lounging’ but also creating at the same time!

I am loving the colour combination in this, it feels modern with the white and the greys but still retro and vintage since it has that olivey green, it will look amazing in my living room when I finish. Or maybe, I will put it at the end of my bed. Haven’t gotten that far yet……

Not sure on how the above should be laid out yet. At the moment, it’s been put together as a collection of 6 ( 3 by 2 ) and then repeated for the entire row. Then, on the next row down, I have offset it by one and then done the exact same combination as the row above. What do you think? Should I offset it or just keep it the exact same through all the rows……?? Decisions, decisions….luckily, I have still have a bit of a way to go before I need to start thinking about that.

week 1 closeup1 project life 2013: week 1 & 2

These are the first two weeks of my project life 2013. I am LOVING the seafoam edition!!!

I have decided that I will not be sticking to a uniform layout this year. i.e instead of always doing the tile card in the top left corner, it will now be dependent on how the page looks. I have started using the 3×4 cards to do week dates on them as well to mix it up a bit more whereas in the past, these were only saved for journalling cards.

Another restriction I’ve taken off this year is to take a photo a day. I tried to do a photo a day last year, but i didn’t end up completing it because on some days it was just too hard with work. I did project life for about 4 months and then eventually missed a few photos here and there. Hopefully with the new flexibility, it means there will be less pressure and it also enables me to use lots of beautiful photos from the same day if I want to as I struggled with choosing only ONE on some days last year. My week’s layout will be photos from that week, and I would like to try and do less journalling cards and more photos.

week 2 project life 2013: week 1 & 2

I love using the kraft coloured cards as the colours always work so well with my photos. I have used the kaisercraft ‘alpha’ typewriter font stamps for the dates and weeks – these are my favourite stamps at the moment as the size works well on these cards and the typewriter font is just so cool.

I have kept it all simple without any embellishments for these two weeks just for a change. I have printed all the photos with a white border and then corner punched them all with my creative memories punch.

It will be amazing to see how this project evolves now that I have more flexibility – I think it will make this project easier and more fun for me since I always struggle to finish my projects.

Project life was created by Becky Higgins. It’s a project designed to make journalling and memory keeping easier by having beautiful journalling cards ready for you to just add in with your photos.

inspirewith….. hearts

With Valentine’s day just under a month away and February being the busiest month for weddings, be inspired with hearts this week.

hearts collage 750x375 inspirewith..... hearts

  1. cupcakes with polka dot paper and white sprinkles on top. Finished off with a sugar heart. making cupcakes is such a cute way to bake for your valentine.
  2. cookies with love messages on them, would be so cute as wedding favours!
  3. collage your photos into a shape of a heart, this would look great above you and your valentine’s bed.
  4. these are knitted hearts put into matchboxes that have been covered in music script – a creative way to use matchboxes.
  5. small treat bags with a wooden heart peg. easy and effective. it would be easy to whip up a hundred of these for wedding favours. you can fill it with any type of treats – home made cookies, chocolates, lollies. yum!
  6. framed hearts cut out of scrapbooking paper. this looks great when you frame 2 or 3 of them and put them next to each other on the wall.

new project: crochet blanket

wool new project: crochet blanket

New project alert!!!

I just picked up these for my next project! A crochet blanket. This will take me a few months to finish as I’m very new to the crotchet world so I’m thinking I will get it done just in time for winter….. (winter is 6 months away).

nans blanket new project: crochet blanket

This is my inspiration for this project. It was crocheted by my hubby’s late nan and she even dyed the wool from natural plant dyes herself! She made quite a few of these in all different colours schemes and they are all stunning.

I’m using store bought wool in 4 colours and giving it more of a modern feel with light grey marle, warm charcoal, olive green and off white.

Check back for an update next week!

project life 2013: title page

title page 658x750 project life 2013: title page

My project life 2013 title page is finished!!

I was so excited to have my new project life kit, I spent all day doing this. It was all guns blazing to get this complete and I even started the first 2 weeks which will be posted in the next couple of days.

Project supplies: ( It’s mostly all part of the seafoam project life kit, but I have added some embellishments for a bit of fun. )

CELEBRATE EVERYDAY: I coloured in the yellow and orange font in this as I wanted a muted colour palette. I just used a black marker, traced over it and coloured it in. Some of the yellow and orange has come through but it fits in with the rest better now. I also cut out a little flag from one of the other cards in the pack and stamped ‘the’ with the ‘alpha’ kaisercraft stamp collection. The flag has then been stapled onto the card.

THE ‘M’ BUTTON:  is literally a button. I stamped a ‘m’ onto some kraft paper, cut out a circle and stuck it into the middle of a button. It has been double sided taped onto the clear envelope on the outside as it was a bit too thick to stick inside the pocket. It gives an amazing 3D element to it.

I corner punched my photos using the creative memories punch. These photos are not from this year, but I wanted to use them just because I LOVE these photos. Look at the fairy lights in the bottom one, aren’t they beautiful? That photo is from our wedding, we hung fairy lights on the roof above the dance floor and we got to dance under them for our first dance. It looked like something out of a movie. LOVE.

one little word 2013: january

Just finished it! My Jan prompt for my one little word 2013…….

Jan page 2 new 750x716 one little word 2013: january

Jan page 1 new 747x750 one little word 2013: january

I’m doing Ali’s project in a 12×12 format as it is easier to get albums and papers etc in NZ, I thought it might have looked funny in a different size format, but I actually quite like it. I guess the main difference between doing this version instead of the US letter size is that there is more room to fill so you get away with using a bigger font. I haven’t used Ali’s title page here just because I chose not to, but with her PNG format, it is really easy to change it to fit into a 4 x 4 square on photoshop, if you do decide you would like to try creating the prompt in this format.

Project supplies:

  • Thickers alphabets – Amy Tangerine
  • Chevron paper – Amy Tangerine
  • Kraft & white polka dot washi tape
  • Wooden flourish – Kaiserkraft
  • Kraft 12 x 12 card stock – Francheville
  • Grid card (3 x 4) – Becky Higgins
  • Polka dot 12 x 12 card stock – Bella! Wedding range

I have done the type all in free hand as I didn’t have a font that suited in my stamp set collection.

The hardest part of this month’s prompt was coming up with the 12 intentions, and also deciding what month to put it into. I still don’t know if I have matched up the months to the right intentions, but I guess the main thing is to mentally focus on an intention each month to bring it into my life in one way or another. It will be a fun and interesting journey and I can’t wait to see what Ali’s February prompt is!

diy fridge magnets

Don’t you just love going into craft stores? What about craft stores having a sale? LOVE! So many amazing things under one roof, and I always find things that I never knew existed! I was at Spotlight to get some things I needed and came out with a few extras…….

label plate 750x534 diy fridge magnets

While I was there, I picked up these cool vintage label plates on sale – 3 for $2! I love a bargain!

So I painted them white.

painted label plate 562x750 diy fridge magnets

label plate cut 562x750 diy fridge magnets

Added double sided tape to the back and stuck them onto some scrapbooking cardstock and cut around them very carefully. I added magnetic tape on the back. And…….

frame fridge magnet 750x562 diy fridge magnets

They turned into fridge magnets! I added ‘to do’ and ‘to buy’ onto a couple of them for my lists (I love making lists). I also added a thickers ampersand onto one.

But as I was doing these, I thought about all the other combination you can have on them, such as…..days of the week or months, names of your children to stick onto the artwork they bring home, ‘to pay’ for all the unpaid bills, the list goes on…..

Don’t you just LOVE the kraft and white polka dot goodie bags? I am obsessed with kraft and white at the moment, it just goes so perfect with everything! Put a cookie in there, tie it with some twine and they would make the perfect little thank you gift.

my one little word 2013: finish

Last year, my sister-in-law told me about this creative project called one little word and this year I’ve decided that I’m going to take part in it with her.

Find out more here: One Little Word 2010 | Ali Edwards.

You choose a word that inspires you for the new year. A word that you would like to invite into your life as your new personal statement and goal for 2013.

I have chosen the word ‘finish’. As project girl, one of the things that I am very good at is ‘starting’ a million projects that excite me but then will run out of time or forget about them when I move onto the next exciting thing. This year, I’m going to work on not only starting exciting projects, but also ‘finishing’ them.

I have chosen to do it in a 12″x12″ format instead of US letter size as it is easier to get the right size folder and papers etc in NZ. I love the idea of this project because you can embrace the idea in so many different ways. Even if you don’t take part in Ali’s one little word, you can still use this idea to have a word in your life this year that you would like to aspire to everyday. It is a tool to motivate and self reflect.

My January prompt is ‘finish small ideas” with the goals of:

  • Starting a blog
  • Finish my bench seat that was purchased a few years ago

What would your word be? What would you invite into your life this year? How will you capture this? Photos? Journaling? Scrapbooking? Share your word or ideas you may have below, I would love to hear about it!

I will post my January page soon to try and inspire you to take part in this fun journey!
